Product Design and Engineering Services

We are an extension of your organization and team.  We are connected in our communication and collaboration tools: our costing models are shared and transparent, our lab space is open and available, our network of funding, manufacturing and operational connections is your network as well.  We are your one source of engineering and product development resources and we are available when you need it, and in the background ready to support when you don’t.  We are your on-demand start-up team!

Our goal as an organization is to develop and bring impactful products to market and ultimately share in the upside.  While we don’t accept equity at first, once we get to know the founding team and corporate innovation teams we work with, we can offset our costs with a small equity investment in the form of our time. 

Unlike typical engineering consulting focused on billing hours and growing their team, our focus is venture building by your side, aligning interests with a small equity stake in the success of the venture. Additionally, unlike typical engineering consulting firms with extensive business development and other internal operations functions (that you pay for), we are very lean and mostly composed of the team actually developing your product and by staying lean in this way, we are able to support rates far below typical consulting rates.

We can start with a conversation and napkin sketch or we can start with a design that is ready for manufacturing. If it is early in the development lifecycle, we will likely start with an architecture development phase where we formulate the product on paper based on the underlying concepts of your product and features. 

This phase will consist of generating initial concept sketches, trade studies of pivotal product features or decisions that need to be made, an initial bill of materials and requirements document, and an execution budget and timeline to launch the product.  If it is later in the development lifecycle, we focus on addressing any key improvements needed, finalizing detailed CAD models, electrical designs, building and testing representative prototypes and generally beginning to spool up manufacturing.

You do.  We do not retain ownership of the IP that we are engaged to help develop, unlike many other engineering development firms who do.  We can also help secure patents along the way.

We help you ramp up production, either with a separate manufacturing partner or internally with your own resources.  We can help make connections with manufacturing partners, help setup the tools and systems to manage manufacturing operations and support establishing robust supply chain relationships where needed.  While we are not a contract manufacturing company, we can support early batch builds to fill the gap before getting to larger scale production.

We work with early stage startups as well as corporate innovation teams.  We bring urgency and efficiency, the kinds of fundamental ingredients needed for any team to deliver innovative and competitive products to market.  Whether that is an early stage startup already operating with urgency, but needing additional horsepower and sophistication in product development, or a corporate innovation team with a thoughtful framework for launching new products, but needing an injection of urgency and open-minded thinking, we're ready to support.
