Community Hero Spotlight: Hoop Compost

Unlimit Ventures’ portfolio company Hoop Compost has been recognized as BioBag's Community Hero!

The Hoop Story

Hoop started in 2015 as a simple idea born from frustration with traditional compost collection methods. We wanted a solution that kept food waste alongside regular trash, just separated. After testing multiple prototypes, Hoop was developed and patented, a practical and space-saving alternative to countertop bins.

The Food Waste Problem

The numbers are significant: according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, about 66 million tons of wasted food were generated in 2019. Only about 5% was composted, while nearly 60% went to landfills.

Food waste makes up roughly 24% of what's in municipal landfills — the largest single category. This matters because food waste in landfills produces methane, a greenhouse gas more potent than carbon dioxide. That's the GHG equivalent of burning over 6 billion gallons of gasoline.  Products like Hoop Compost help address this gap.

Our Role

Unlimit Ventures works with teams building products that solve real problems. Hoop Compost is a good example of this: straight forward design that makes composting easier for people at home.

Congratulations to the Hoop Compost team on this recognition from BioBag!
