CLYR Secures NIEHS Grant to Revolutionize Environmental Health Education

Powering the Next Wave of Health-Tech

We are thrilled to announce a significant milestone for CLYR, a flagship company in the Unlimit Ventures portfolio. In a major step forward for environmental health literacy, CLYR has received a subaward for a Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS).

This funding, awarded to our partner dfusion, Inc., is for the development of S3E (Simulation for Environmental Exposure Education)—a groundbreaking, game-based learning platform.

Advancing a Critical Cause: Educating the Next Generation

The core mission of the S3E project is to tackle a critical gap in public health education. Environmental hazards, especially within our own homes, are often invisible and poorly understood. S3E will change that by empowering middle school students with essential environmental health literacy focused on indoor air quality.

Through engaging, interactive gameplay, S3E will teach students to think like scientists. They will learn to investigate and understand how their indoor environments impact their health, exploring how exposure to common pollutants can be reduced or eliminated. This project, led by CLYR's CEO and Co-founder Dr. Neil Klepeis, leverages his extensive research in Exposure Science and Indoor Air Quality to make complex science accessible and actionable for young minds.

Building a Stronger CLYR: Enhancing Core Technology

This grant does more than just fund an educational tool; it significantly strengthens CLYR's core technological capabilities. The work on S3E will help fortify and streamline our development pipeline for creating customized guidance on environmental exposures.

Modeling and simulation are central to CLYR's capacity to deliver advanced products. This project validates our ability to quantitatively model and assess the health impacts of environmental hazards found in homes across the country. The powerful simulations built for S3E are closely aligned with our business objectives: to develop Agentic AI systems that provide customers with precise information on home pollutant exposure, the associated health risks, and the specific steps they can take to protect their families.

A Testament to the Unlimit Ventures Model

This achievement is a powerful demonstration of the Unlimit Ventures mission in action. We are proud to have partnered with CLYR from the very beginning, contributing to:

  • Market opportunity discovery and venture concept definition

  • Initial capital investment and legal formation

  • Product system architecture and core engineering

  • Software development and industrial design

  • Building the founding team and supporting seed round fundraising

CLYR's success underscores our commitment to identifying and nurturing innovative ideas that can redefine entire industries.

A Glimpse into CLYR's Technology

The same advanced intelligence behind the S3E project is at the heart of CLYR's consumer-facing solutions. Here’s a look at the technology that makes it possible:

We are incredibly proud to support Dr. Klepeis and the entire CLYR team as they continue to push the boundaries of what's possible in environmental health. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting journey.
