Emission Free Generators Advances ZENH2™ Through User Testing and Industry Validation

Emission Free Generators (EFG) continues to advance the ZENH2™ portable backup power system through user testing and engineering validation. Since Unlimit Ventures first partnered with EFG, the program has progressed through successive design iterations, expanded system testing, and growing industry engagement. Recent milestones—including more than 10,000 hours of testing, participation in nationally recognized energy programs, strategic investment, and increasing customer reservations—reflect continued progress as the technology moves through its current stage of development.

Throughout the program, Unlimit Ventures has led key engineering disciplines including mechanical engineering, mechanism design, fluid dynamics, controls development, and industrial design. Engineering efforts have focused on refining system architecture, integrating mechanical and electrical subsystems, improving usability, and supporting iterative testing as the platform continues through validation.

Engineering the ZENH2™

The ZENH2™ is designed to provide portable backup power by generating hydrogen only when electricity is needed. Water is combined with a proprietary dry powder contained in a replaceable energy cartridge, producing hydrogen that is immediately converted into electricity through a proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell. Because hydrogen is generated on demand, the system eliminates the need for pressurized or cryogenic hydrogen storage commonly associated with conventional hydrogen systems.

The current system integrates automatic blackout detection through an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), allowing connected devices to remain powered during an outage. It also provides 110V AC, USB, and USB-C outputs for household appliances and personal electronics, while reusable energy cartridges and application-based monitoring simplify operation and support a circular fuel model.

Validation Through Testing

Engineering development continues to be driven by system testing. According to EFG, the platform has accumulated more than 10,000 hours of testing, generating performance data across hydrogen generation, fuel cell operation, controls, and electrical output.

Each energy cartridge provides approximately 1.6 kWh of usable energy, enabling the system to power essential equipment such as refrigerators, CPAP machines, lighting, and communication devices during power interruptions. Results from ongoing testing continue to inform engineering refinements, verify system performance, and support the next stages of development.

Industry Recognition

Alongside technical development, EFG has expanded its engagement with organizations across the energy sector.

The company was selected for the Techstars Alabama EnergyTech Accelerator, providing access to commercialization resources and industry mentorship. Demonstrations of the technology also led to collaboration with SoCalGas' Research, Development & Demonstration and Applied Technology teams to explore hydrogen-on-demand systems for distributed power applications.

EFG was also accepted into the Southern California Energy Innovation Network (SCEIN). At the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Industry Growth Forum, CTO Chase Collins presented the ZENH2™ to investors and industry stakeholders, further expanding the company's engagement within the clean-energy community.

These milestones provide independent recognition of the technology while creating opportunities for continued technical collaboration and future deployment.

Customer Interest Continues to Grow

Customer engagement has continued alongside engineering progress. Following an oversubscribed Wefunder campaign, EFG has opened reservations for the ZENH2™ through a fully refundable reservation program and announced a limited Founder's Edition for early supporters.

While the system remains in user testing, these initiatives provide valuable market feedback as engineering development continues and future milestones are pursued.

Continuing the Engineering Journey

The ZENH2™ program demonstrates the value of sustained multidisciplinary engineering in advancing emerging energy technologies. Through continued collaboration, Unlimit Ventures supports the ongoing refinement of the platform across mechanical engineering, mechanism design, fluid dynamics, controls development, and industrial design.

As user testing continues, the partnership remains focused on validating system performance, refining the design, and supporting the next stages of development toward future deployment of a clean, hydrogen-powered backup power solution.
